HOW IT WORKS
-
The graduated wavetec™ active compression profile applied initially to the lower calf where compressed to a peak pressure value.
-
Before the lower calf reaches its peak value, the mid-calf region is compressed by the device to its peak pressure value, which is lower than that of the lower calf value.
-
Similarly, the top calf begins to be compressed before the mid-calf reaches its peak value; thus, mimicking the calf muscle pump.
THE SCIENCE EXPLAINED
Arteries carry blood from the heart out to other parts of the body, such as the limbs, and veins carry blood back to the heart. Valves in the veins stop the blood from flowing backward. About 90% of venous return from the legs is through the action of the muscle pumps.
Active compression benefits people with circulation issues or at risk for blood clots in the legs by improving venous return through effective muscle pump action.
Active compression devices are beneficial by improving venous return through the application of active compression to the body parts from distal to proximal regions of the limb. The contraction and relaxation of the muscle groups and blood vessels will mimic the muscle pump activity, thereby increasing circulation and reducing swelling of the muscles.

STATIC COMPRESSION
Static compression solutions often come in the form of compression socks. Although medical-grade compression socks apply compression to the legs, the tight-fitting nature of the socks proves difficult to wear for some wearers. Compression provided by the sock mitigates the back-flow of blood but does not directly or actively help upward flow towards the heart.
Active compression devices attempt to address these mobility issues by acting as an external aid to pump blood towards the heart and have improved effectiveness compared to static compression devices.
WAVETEC™ ACTIVE COMPRESSION PROFILE - TESTED
The wavetec™ compression profile has been through several pilot studies and external studies to validate its effectiveness.
One such study conducted on athletes to assess the effect of the wavetec™ compression profile on recovery showed that the athletes using the wavetec™ compression profile were able to maintain consistent performance compared to the group that used compression socks.

PHOTOBIOMODULATION TECHNOLOGY
Photobiomodulation uses low-level Lasers or light-emitting-diodes to reduce pain, lower inflammation, improve and repair tissue. Near infrared light therapy, uses infrared wavelengths which is capable of penetrating deeper into the body, reaching soft tissues, muscles, joints and bones. Red and near-infrared light therapy is highly effective in treating chronic inflammation. It suppresses inflammation and production of inflammatory cytokines, and dramatically reduces inflammation throughout the body.
NASA researchers have found that light therapy using NIR LEDs, work by activating photosensitive receptors in the body, in this case stimulating the process in a cell’s mitochondria. Light wavelengths in the NIR range (680nm to 880nm) have been found to travel through skin and muscle tissue, to prompt tissue and deep wound healing.
In essence, red and near-infrared light “fires up” this engine of the cell, driving ATP production by the mitochondria.
During near-infrared phototherapy, absorption of red or near infrared photons by COX (cytochrome c oxidase) in the mitochondrial respiratory chain causes secondary molecular and cellular events, including activation of second messenger pathways, changes in NO levels, and growth factor production.
The health of every organ and every cell in the body depends on the energy being produced by the mitochondria in those cells. Thus, because red/NIR light therapy work to enhance mitochondrial energy production in essentially every type of cell in the body, it can enhance the cellular processes and cellular health of potentially almost every type of cell in the body.
